Steven and Virginie Workshop

posted Dec 7, 2011 12:15 PM by Swing Ottawa   [ updated Dec 14, 2011 11:43 AM ]

We're having Steven and Virginie back for a third year in a row!

March 30 - April 1, 2012 Ottawa will be fortunate once again to have the privilege of learning from two of the best instructors in the world. Not only that, but we'll have Gordon Webster and his band playing for us Saturday night.

Anyone who was privileged enough to attend last year's dance and workshop knows that this is going to be a magical event - so mark the date now!

To attend this workshop, you need to comfortable with the basics of lindy hop, including the swing-out, lindy circle, tuck turn and underarm turn. If you aren't there yet, it's not too late to take classes in the winter to be ready for this. Check out the lessons tab for information on Ottawa's great dance studios.

UPDATE: Registration to open January 13thd!

Reminder: OSDS is Taking Bit Of A Break

posted Nov 28, 2011 8:48 AM by Swing Ottawa   [ updated Dec 14, 2011 11:42 AM ]

Just a reminder from October 19th's announcement, that we have decided not hold dances during the holiday season. This means that we are not hosting a dance on December 23rd and December 30th.  Look for us to return with our first Live Band Friday of the New Year on January 6th 2012!

UPDATE:
To get your dancing fix during the holiday season, you can go to Swing Dynamite's Crossover Party on December 23rd, or to Dance with Alana's Puttin' on the Ritz New Year's Party on December 31st.

November 11th - OSDS 12th Anniversary Dance

posted Oct 31, 2011 6:48 PM by Swing Ottawa

Don't forget that we're having Terra Hazelton and Her Easy Answers to play for us at the OSDS 12th Anniversary dance and Remembrance Day fundraiser. This will be a night to remember, we'll be dressed to impress and rug-cutting like nobody's business!

Tickets are $15 at the door - and the door in question is at our usual venue at All Saints Church :)  The late night will be held in the same venue, where we'll eat and dance and celebrate until 4am! Can you stand that much fun?

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Hallowe'en!

posted Oct 24, 2011 5:01 AM by Swing Ottawa

It probably hasn't escaped your notice that Hallowe'en is coming up soon...

Not only is this Friday the day before the Joel Plys Balboa workshop begins, but it is also your chance to impress everybody with your Hallowe'en costume!

We'll have candy on hand, as well as a prize for the best male costume and the best female costume - so channel your creativity and we'll see you on the dance floor :)

OSDS 12th Anniversary Dance - November 11th

posted Oct 20, 2011 7:43 AM by Swing Ottawa

We've done it again - somehow the year has passed and the OSDS is turning 12!

To celebrate, we're going to do it up in our usual style with an amazing band, a late night dance until 4am,  a birthday cake and food, and everybody dressed up to the nines :) We're bringing in Terra Hazelton and Her Easy Answers from Toronto to play for us.

This year our anniversary falls on Remembrance Day, and in the spirit of remembering and honouring all who have fought and are fighting in service of our country, the dance will be a fundraiser for the CFPFSS Soldier On Fund.

There are no advance sales of tickets for this year's dance - just show up at the door and pay the entrance fee of $15 per person.

We're looking forward to celebrating our birthday with all of our friends! See you there!

OSDS is Taking a Break - Nov 18, Dec 23, Dec 30

posted Oct 19, 2011 1:05 PM by Swing Ottawa

Unfortunately, our regular swing dancing fun will be pausing briefly on November 18th. This is the yearly church-bazaar inspired break. But don't worry, we'll be back on November 25th with our usual routine.

We've also decided that we will not hold dances during the holiday season on December 23rd and December 30th.  Look for us to return with our first Live Band Friday of the New Year on January 6th 2012!
