RENDEZVOUS RAFFLE WEEKEND: Congratulations to Chris Evans on winning the 2011 Rendezvous Raffle! This good fortune has brought Ottawa the chance to learn balboa from a famous, fabulous globetrotting instructor. We are privileged to have a fantastic teacher coming here to share his love and knowledge of Balboa dancing from October 28-30 2011*. He’ll be teaming up with our very own Andrea Pelletier! See his website for the detailed schedule and to register. Is this the workshop for you? Yes it is! If you’ve never danced balboa before – or even if you’ve never danced before! – he will have you well versed in the foundation of the dance before the weekend is over. And if you already know and love balboa, he has a couple of classes aimed squarely at breaking your brain! We believe that intermediate-advanced dancers would also enjoy and benefit from taking the whole weekend. After all, the more experienced you get as a dancer, the more you realize that it’s perfecting the basics that allows you to turn the dance into an experience of yummy goodness! I've never danced balboa before - why would I want to?
Still not convinced? Need to see more? Watch for our balboa demonstrations after the announcements at OSDS Friday night dances. We’ll show you how much fun it can be! This is the best part! Because this workshop is a raffle prize that he puts on to promote Balboa dancing, the price for the workshop is only large enough to cover the cost of the venue and the travel. You get all of this amazing instruction for just $50! How can you turn that down? A normal workshop would run between $120 and $160 – or even higher! Please note that the evening dances are priced separately - the Friday night dance is our traditional $5 and the Saturday night dance with a band will be $10. Don't wait too long to register! We're limiting this event to 25 couples, so we're expecting to sell out - but even if we don't, the price goes up to $75 at the door! Registration The easiest way to register is to go to his website for this event, where you can register and pay via Paypal. It is also possible to register and pay in cash at the OSDS on Friday nights. See his website for the detailed schedule and to register. Ottawa that wanted to learn and promote the music and style of Gypsy
Jazz. Gypsy Jazz was created in the 1930's by the legendary two-fingered
guitarist Django Reinhard and blends American big band swing with the
exotic sounds of European gypsy folk songs. Django-Libre approaches this
style with creativity, technique, and love for this music. Their
passionate compositions and improvisations reward both listener and
dancer alike.

Unfortunately we weren’t able to avoid scheduling our workshop on the same weekend due to timing factors beyond our control. We’ve been in touch to make our apologies to the organizers in Montreal, who have been very understanding. The upshot? If Balboa is absolutely not your thing, get on your dancing feet and do the Lindy instead! |
